PYP 5th Grade Teacher and Grades 3-5 Team Lead

Teaching is in my blood. I have teachers in my family, from my great-grandparents, my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts. I have always loved working with children, starting when I was in college and taught Sunday Islamic school. I have a Masters Degree in Teaching (MAT) from Johns Hopkins University and am certified to teach in the state of Maryland. I have been a part of Tarbiyah Academy since it’s inception and this is my sixth year teaching here. I enjoyed teaching fourth grade for three years; however, I have found my niche with fifth grade. While I hope I have a little bit of all of the Learner Profile attributes in me, I definitely see myself as a Thinker because I love being creative and finding better ways to do things. I want to nurture this trait in my students. I am on a continual quest to improve myself and spend a lot of time being Reflective. I also see myself as Caring because I love my family and my students and I feel strongly about taking care of the Earth and all of the living things on it. Some fun facts about me: I’m a boys mom—I have three boys that are growing up way too fast for me. I am an ambivert. I enjoy being around other people, but then I also need to be alone. I like reading and watching TV and movies—but I love reading the best. I enjoy knitting and have even taught a few TA students how to knit. And, alhamdulillah, my husband and I were able to go for Hajj in 2019—the last group to go before the pandemic. Contact Ms. Ahmed at sahmed [at] tarbiyahacademy [dot] org
