MS. SHABANA AHMED

PYP 5th Grade Teacher and Grades 3-5 Team Lead

Teaching is in my blood. I have teachers in my family, from my great-grandparents, my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts. I have always loved working with children, starting when I was in college and taught Sunday Islamic school. I have a master’s degree in Teaching (MAT) from Johns Hopkins University and am certified to teach in the state of Maryland. I have been a part of Tarbiyah Academy since its inception and have taught here for six years. I enjoyed teaching fourth and fifth grade for a total of six years. This year, I have transitioned into my new role as the IB PYP Coordinator. I have a true love of IB and am excited to support and elevate the Primary Years Programme at TA.

While I hope I have a little bit of all the Learner Profile attributes in me, I most clearly define myself as a Thinker because I love being creative and finding better ways to do things. I am on a continual quest to improve myself and spend a lot of time being Reflective. I also see myself as Caring because I love my family and my students, and I feel strongly about taking care of the Earth and all the living things on it. Some fun facts about me: I’m a boys’ mom—I have three boys that are growing up way too fast for me. I am an ambivert. I enjoy being around other people, but then I also need to be alone. I like reading and watching TV and movies—but I love reading the best. I enjoy knitting and have even taught a few TA students how to knit. And, alhamdulillah, my husband and I were able to go for Hajj in 2019—the last group to go before the pandemic. Contact Ms. Ahmed at sahmed [at] tarbiyahacademy [dot] org”
