Getting Your Writingfix – Session 2

Course Description:

How do authors use language to breathe life into their work? How do they jazz up their writing and add a splash of pizzazz? In this course, Students will explore techniques to enhance their writing by modeling their work after famous published authors. Incorporating the 6+1 traits of writing, students will develop their own unique voice while also building a sense of audience. (Duration: 8 week session)

In Session 1 (ending on Apr. 1), students learned about the first 2 of the 6+1 Traits of Writing: Idea Development and Organization. Students wrote their own models following the famous writers of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, Christopher Paul Curtis’s The Watsons Go to Birmingham, Judi Barrett’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and David Wisniewski’s The Secret Knowledge of Grownups.

In Session 2, students will continue to write using the 6+1 Traits, specifically Word Choice and Sentence Fluency. Session 1 is NOT a prerequisite for Session 2.
